Campushopper Privacy Policy

At Campushopper, we aim to develop innovative services to better serve our users. We recognize that privacy is an important issue, so we design and operate our services with the protection of your privacy in mind. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of personal information we gather when you use Campushopper's services, as well as some of the steps we take to safeguard it.

The majority of the following principles apply to the personally identifying information we ask for and that you provide. "Personally identifying information" is information that individually identifies you, such as your name, physical address or email address.

Information Collected/Tracked by Campushopper

This refers to information not directly submitted by users to Campushopper.This is information we collect that is not personally identifiable, such as browser type and IP address. This information is gathered for all users to the site. We use your server, IP address, and browser-type related information in the general administration of Campushopper.

Information Submitted to Campushopper
  • Profile information as well as first name, last name, and photos are displayed to people in a user's personal network, to support the function of the site as a social networking community where users can meet new people through their friends.
  • Email address and full name are used when a user invites a friend via email to join the service, and when we send notifications to a user related to their use of the service. Except when inviting friends, a user's email address is not shared or displayed with people within a user's personal network unless the user chooses to include their email address in their profile.
  • Users within The Hub personal network communicate with each other through this Campushopper service, without disclosing email addresses, unless one or both of the users have chosen to do so in their viewable profile(s) within the network.
  • We may also use a user's email address to send updates or news regarding our site, but the user may choose not to receive this email by following the opt out instructions contained within the email.
Sharing of the Information this Site Gathers/Tracks

As a matter of policy, except where you are expressly informed otherwise, we do not rent, sell, share, trade or give away any of your personal information unless required by law or for the protection of your membership. However, Campushopper may share profile information and aggregate usage information in a non-personally identifiable manner to advertisers and other third parties in order to present to members more targeted advertising, products and services. In such situations, we will never disclose information that could be used to personally identify you.

Campushopper does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except under the following circumstances:
  • We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims;
  • We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of Campushopper's terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
  • We transfer information about you if Campushopper is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, Campushopper will notify you before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Please be aware that Campushopper is not responsible for the privacy practices of other Web sites. Use of Cookies

A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user. Currently, we use only session ID cookies and not persistent cookies. This means that once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the user's hard drive for an extended period of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions. If we find it necessary to use persistent cookies in the future, it will be clearly explained in this policy. Cookies are used to manage sessions on our site. Users must enable cookies to use our site. We do not and will not use cookies to collect private information from any user which they did not intentionally submit to us.

Correcting/Updating or Removing Information


Campushopper users may modify or remove any of their personal information at any time by logging into their account and accessing features such as Edit Profile.

Invite a Friend - Hub Feature


If a user chooses to use our Invite feature to invite a friend to our site, we ask them for the friend's email address. Campushopper will automatically send the friend an email inviting them to join the site. Campushopper does not disclose this email address to third party organizations, and Campushopper does not use the email address to send any other communication besides invitations and invitation reminders.

Message Boards, and Public Forums

Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online for example on message boards, through e-mail, or in chat areas - that information can be collected and used by others. This includes both other members and nonmembers. In short, by posting personal information online that is publicly accessible, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return.

Information security
  • Your Campushopper account is password-protected. In addition, we take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction of data.
  • We restrict access to your personally identifying information to employees who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our services.
Email Choice/Opt-out

Users who no longer wish to receive updates or news may opt-out of receiving these communications by following the instructions contained in the email.

Changes to this Policy

Please note this Privacy Policy will change from time to time. We expect most such changes to be minor, but there may be changes that are more significant. Regardless, we will post those changes on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will also provide a more prominent notice. Each version will be noted at the top of the page. Prior versions of this Privacy Policy will be kept in an archive for you to view.
